Solar Energy:What you need to know about the electric car run on solar powered batteries
Electric cars run on solar energy powered batteries
Solar energy and the rumors of the death of electric cars have been greatly exaggerated. Not only are electric cars on the road, mostly in the form of a hybrid vehicles, but the car driven by solar energy is also on the boards. Solar energy cars have been around for a while, usually in university competitions, but they had to have incredibly large solar energy panels to power a tiny race car. Now the battery for the solar energy car seems to be just around the corner.
Solar Energy and Honda Plans
You may think that one of the companies making the most money from hydro carbon powered cars would not welcome the electric car, but Honda’s ‘trying to make a more efficient car battery solar energy powered unit. They are not only limiting their market to automobiles, but also for all uses that solar energy can be made.
Honda is not the only company that has invested heavily on improving the efficiency of the solar energy cell. They opened a manufacturing plant in 2007 totaling $ 86.5 million (U.S.). Its sole purpose is to make solar energy cells to power buildings and vehicles. They want to do everything from car batteries to solar energy power batteries.
Solar Energy and New Materials
The key to being able to get moving with solar energy has been the realization that not only silicon can be used to make a solar energy panel work. Silicon has the ability to produce energy molecules that cling and acts as a kind of bus to transfer these molecules to other places. They make great leaders. However, you need a huge panel of silicon for enough power for something like a car battery run on solar energy.
Now, Honda has another material that also acts as a conductor of solar energy into electricity. Instead of silicon, Honda’s solar cells are ultra-thin membranes of copper, indium, gallium and deselenium. This equipment is often called CIGS. Make it a habit to hear that anocrym. In recent years, when you hear the media talk about CIGS, they do not mean the kind of tobacco. When can I get it?
There are already small cars powered by car batteries run on solar energy that you can buy and put together. These “kit cars” are street legal. They usually can not go faster than thirty miles an hour. However, the smallest car in the world powered by solar energy is less than an inch long.
