The Solar House
In the 1970s many homes started using solar energy technologies to get some electricity or provide the family with hot water. Today, solar energy powered homes can do much more than create electricity while the sun shines. They can load entire banks of batteries that can run refrigerators, lights and other appliances completely “off grid”, they can be specifically designed for daylighting operating and they can have a range of options like, solar outdoor lighting fully powered by the suns solar rays.
In the future most modern homes will be solar powered, from solar energy collector panels positioned to receive and absorb optimal solar radiation and subsequently feed there own use, the public services grid as they charge their own batteries. While some solar powered homes remain on the grid, there are others who seek to live completely free of all utilities using solar power. Incredibly this is entirely possible as long as the house or structure has been optimized for solar energy in its design, and if it is in a location that is not subject to cloud cover or long periods of cloudy weather .For example, if areas of New England that have solar powered homes and buildings, they tend to stay on the grid, as the coldest months may see several days without the type of sun bright enough for the required amount of solar energy.
Any modern house with solar energy will also have to consider the types of devices installed in the building as well. Not only do they need to be energy efficient, but they may need to be specially designed to meet the capabilities of solar electricity. Interestingly, domestic appliances that can run off of solar energy are fairly easy to find, and large home improvement stores have many available.
The exterior of many homes can also be equipped with a wide range of solar devices as well, and they are far from the early days of solar powered lighting. Today, the lights come as standard lamps, wall units, or even as highly decorative lamps that can be easily moved from one place to another instead of flood lights . There are also many styles of solar powered security lights with motion detectors, which are extremely popular, and used for gardens and walkways and are often used for safety and beauty.
Solar Energy Possibilities
It is exciting to imagine what solar energy technologies will be in the next thirty years, especially considering how fast solar powered technology has advanced and has subsequently been implemented in the short time of our modern era.
